Post-Grad Blues -> Computer Science (June 7th)
Hey everyone (more like future Ameen)! Oh man, where to start... I recently graduated Summa Cum Laude from SDSU as a Computer Science student, and I can’t help but feel jaded following all of my coursework. I started college as a bright-eyed Mechanical Engineering student, soon switching to Biology right before the dreaded “Covid-Era”, and finally switching to Computer Science during the pandemic. Honestly, my brain is a little bit fried... So, I decided to enter a month-long "break mode" on May 12th (MY GRADUATION DATE).
However, here we are in June, forced to face the reality of the situation: I have done NOTHING this past month. Now I'm in this awkward stage, where I want to get a job, but I also want to pursue one of my passions that I started in high school: MUSIC. However, that's an issue for another blog... As I mentioned earlier, my entire college career was all over the place, and when I finally made the switch to Computer Science, I felt as if everything was expedited, I never got an internship, and I most certainly rarely felt confident regarding my coding ability. Honestly, I have never felt more anxious, and it is frustrating that I worked so hard to get an extremely high GPA, just to be in the position I am now (it's on me, I know :/). So, here's the core of my problems: I REALLY don't feel like I am ready for a job. That's why I'm here. I'm hoping to learn more about fields that I am particularly interested in, and by writing about the information I read about, I can not only absorb the information better, but I can also help OTHERS understand! Overall, I'm excited about what the next couple of months will bring. As it stands today, I am looking to improve at understanding Machine Learning, AI, Data Engineering, and even Software Engineering (in that order). Obviously, this is all subject to change, and I'm curious to know how this will change, if at all.
In case you couldn't tell yet, I am fairly new to blogging, and I'm wondering how this will all turn out. Possibly a bunch of words on a page? Maybe it'll be more concise? We'll see. I just started another, more music-specific blog, and I’m hoping to remain dedicated enough to contribute to both blogs and improve my writing skills, as well as the actual skills that I write about. If this ISN'T "future Ameen" reading right now, I hope to take you along on this journey! And if this IS: GET TO WORK!
